Newcastle voted best city in UK? Wey aye!

Posted on 1st February 2015

It came as no surprise to us that Newcastle, our home and place of work, has been voted the best city in the country by The Guardian, something we are immensely proud of. With our iconic Geordie accent, it’s hard to miss us whether at home or abroad, but what is it about our wonderful city that deserves the winning title?

“The rainbow arch of one great bridge was echoed downstream by the blue-green span of another. The glass of great buildings glimmered and a cool wind blew from the east. I felt as I had in other great cities at night – as if I was in a timeless and magical place.”

– Harry Pearson, The Guardian

United by seven bridges, each one a feat of engineering and creativity, our ever-changing cityscape adds another string to our region’s bow. Blue Flag beaches, vibrant nightlife, award-winning tourist attractions and iconic architecture make our stunning region what it is today. History and heritage is still very much at the heart of Newcastle, once defined by shipbuilding and coal mining, Newcastle has evolved into a vibrant visitor destination for both tourism and business. Creativity is in abundance here too, as a plethora of local businesses embrace the new digital age and strive to put the North East firmly on the map as innovators in technology and communication.

Passionate about enterprise in our city, we’ve partnered with the NewcastleGateshead Initiative to help promote and drive investment and tourism in NewcastleGateshead. With world-class universities and award-winning research centers, we are at the forefront of new technologies, even our shipyards are slowly reawakening to a new dawn of engineering, offshore opportunities and exporting.

An all-encompassing city; Newcastle continues to attract and retain talented and ambitious individuals, and as a thriving creative agency, it’s the perfect base for Unwritten. The abundance of design and digital talent emerging from the regions universities, ever expanding community of highly experienced creatives and forward-thinking businesses allowing us to challenge them creatively, makes our decision to remain here an easy one.
